7 Best Things to do in Qatar today [Infographic]

Qatar is very unique. As much as it is immersed in tradition, it is developing rapidly. As it prepares to host the 2022 World Cup, which is happening in a few days, there’s an increasing number of things to do in Qatar today.

1- Take Part in the World Cup 

 

If you are visiting Qatar these days, you are probably there for the 22nd edition of the FIFA world cup, which will be played from 20 November to 18 December. 

 

It is important to mention that this will be the first world cup played in the Arab world. You will get the opportunity to discover the eight spectacular stadiums Qatar built specifically for the FIFA World Cup. Prepare to be amazed. 

 

ّInterestingly enough, after the world cup, Qatar plans to disassemble a total of 170,000 seats and provided them to developing nations. These will help build as many as 22 new stadiums, which will make a huge impact on their sports infrastructure, leaving Qatar with stadiums with 20-25,000 seats, which is suitable for domestic needs

2- Dune Safari

 

If you think the word Safari means forests and wildlife, think again. this deep dive into Qatar’s desert landscapes is something else. it’s completely safe and convenient, you will hit the desert by chauffeured Four-wheel drive to absorb the experience. 

You can also go off-road for sandboarding, have a cup of traditional tea, and visit the Inland Sea: a saltwater sea framed by dunes.

3- Doha Corniche 

 

Doha Corniche is a 7 km promenade along Doha Bay. The view the corniche offers of the water is outstanding, especially at night. 

 

You will come across Doha’s skyline viewpoint, from where you can see a spectacular view of the bay and its Traditional dhows  (wooden cargo boats), and the Pearl Monument. 

 

4- Historical North Qatar 

North Qatar was the earlier habitat of the People of Qatar. On this half-day tour, you can explore Bedouin life. You will also learn about pearl diving and fishing, the two most famous trades in the area. 

There are many historical attractions and UNESCO Sites including Al Zubara Fort, Purple Island, and Al Barzan Tower

 

5- Souq Waqif

Souq Waqif is the main heritage market in Qatar. It’s also an important touristic attraction. The souq includes many narrow alleyways and is famous for traditional handicrafts, spices, garments, and souvenirs. 

 

It originally dates back at least a century ago and was renovated in 2006. 

 

6- Night Desert Safari

Unfortunately, most visitors miss this unique experience. As darkness falls, you can travel into the desert and visit a camel camp. 

 

You can also ride a camel, take a dune bash with a specialist driver, go sandboarding and gaze out over the sea, all while the sparkling stars shine in the black desert sky.

 

7- Camel Racing

Camel Racing is a very popular sport in Qatar. During the high season, which is between October and February, there are camel racing tournaments every Friday. Both locals and tourists alike go for camel race-watching. 

 

One of the most interesting details is that jockeys are not people, but robots that are operated with remote control. They even have speakers so that camel riders can communicate with the camels throughout the race.
